Transfer tools

Transfer tools are similar to progressive tools in that they are divided into individual tool stages. However, unlike progressive tools, transfer tools do not use a strip of sheet metal from which the finished part is ejected in the final stage, but instead use individual blanks that are transported between the tool stages with the aid of transfer grippers. Thanks to transfer tools, no intermediate steps by employees or robots are necessary; only the blank needs to be inserted, and the press takes care of the rest.

Development and design of a transfer tool

The development of transfer tools begins with method planning, during which the sequence and number of individual stages are determined. In most cases, pre-punching is used to ensure that the blanks can be centered properly in the subsequent stages. The planning is initially simulated digitally in FEM so that methodical errors can be avoided before the tool is built.
