Method planning and forming simulation

Whether it's a car seat, bicycle sprocket, or disc carrier, method planning and forming simulation always form the basis for subsequent tool design and tool manufacturing.

At Precision Forming in Amtzell, we have more than 20 years of experience in method planning and have been relying on computer-aided forming simulation for a long time. We use Simufact Forming as our simulation tool, which is particularly strong in the areas of thick sheet metal and solid forming. We also have the option of optimizing or validating your method using Autoform.

Method planning  During method planning, our team determines the individual stages or production steps that are necessary to manufacture, for example, a lamella carrier from a 6 mm thick sheet. At which stage does it make sense to cut, punch/die, deep draw, bend, or thicken? These are the questions we deal with during planning.  Our goal is to produce, for example, a vehicle door or a bicycle sprocket from a sheet metal strip or aluminum round in as few tool stages as possible. This saves us and our customers time and money. And this is exactly where forming simulation comes into play. 

Forming simulation  

In forming simulation, the individual steps of sheet metal forming are simulated digitally in order to identify methodical errors and optimize the process before real tools are built. The finite element method (FEM) is usually the basis for common simulation tools.
