Surface and heat treatment

Surface and heat treatment involves optimizing series parts or tool parts to achieve the desired properties. More specifically, heat treatment is about hardening the material, while surface treatment is about improving the external appearance and protecting against corrosion.  With our capabilities, we can offer our customers a customized solution that does not require any post-processing at the customer's or a third party's facility. Thanks to many years of experience, we manufacture high-quality products in line with our customers' requirements. Hardening aluminum

Our oven system is primarily used to harden aluminum pinions, which are then stored. The pinions are made of high-strength aluminum, which is used in the bicycle industry as well as in aerospace applications. The oven was designed as an overhead system. This enables fully automatic heat treatment of larger batches. In our case, the oven is loaded with 1,200 parts.

The entire system consists of a solution annealing oven (LGO), a quenching tank, a warm aging oven (WAO) and a charging rack for transferring parts between the ovens. Both ovens consist of a movable oven cover, a frequency-controlled cover drive, and a circulation fan. The latter ensures the circulation of hot air. The two furnaces each consist of a movable furnace cover, a frequency-controlled cover drive, and a circulation fan. The latter ensures the circulation of hot air, which enters the usable space with the aid of vertical air channels.

Solution annealing oven

Two double thermocouples are installed within the side wall of the furnace to monitor and regulate the temperature. The connected safety temperature limiter switches off the oven if the temperature exceeds 510°C. The temperature and duration of the hardening process can be freely selected by the operator via the control panel. The actual values can also be monitored here during the process.

The aim of solution annealing is to reduce concentration differences within the material and therefore positively change the material properties.

Quenching unit

The quenching process takes place between the oven processes. The quenching tank is filled with water and is located below the oven. After the oven door is opened, the charging rack is lowered into the quenching tank, then lifted again and, after the draining time, transported to the solution annealing oven.

Aging furnace

Just like in the solution annealing oven, two double thermocouples are installed in the aging furnace for monitoring and control. A maximum temperature of 210°C is set for the aluminum sprockets. The final hardness is achieved during aging.

Brushing and vibratory finishing

As small burrs often form on pressed parts and some pressing parts are very sharp-edged, many parts require post-processing. At Precision Forming, we can vibratory finish or brush the parts for post-processing.

Vibratory finishing

For the vibratory finishing of our parts, we have two vibratory finishing machines at our disposal. The workpieces are placed in the machine's drum together with an abrasive and shaken around in vibrating movements. With the right choice of abrasive, the workpieces can be deburred, rounded, matted, smoothed and polished at the same time. We mainly use vibratory finishing for steel pinions and small parts for Aguti.

Brushing

We use a brushing machine to deburr the aluminum parts. The parts are fed on a special device to roun through a rotating brush to brush off the sharp edges created during pressing. Minor scratches that may occur during the punching process are also removed when brushing.

Polish

Our polishing corner is primarily used for polishing tool elements.

Polishing is a finishing process that improves optical and functional characteristics. Whether for internal or external surfaces, we have the necessary tools to polish every tool element to the desired characteristics.

The two main tools are a lathe with the option of clamping workpieces and a polishing machine with various polishing attachments. For example, the rollers for the rolling tools are polished on the lathe.

Serial Production

The production of precision sheet metal parts made of steel, stainless steel, or high-strength aircraft aluminum, as well as complete assemblies, is our second mainstay.

Our customers value our expertise in forming technology, heat treatment, parts finishing, and assembly.

Metal forming

Progressive dies with tolerances in the hundredths range are our strength.

With our patented fine-cutting pads, we achieve tolerances on conventional presses that are otherwise only possible on fine-cutting presses.

This is complemented by our expertise in the field of roll tools for sheet metal up to 6 mm thick.
